Montgomery Expressway

The Montgomery Expressway, also known as the Alabama River Parkway, is a four-lane tolled highway and bridge that connects the Cities of Montgomery Millbrook and Prattville, and the surrounding communities of Elmore and Montgomery Counties.

Opened in 1998, the Expressway was built entirely with private funding, making it one of Alabama’s most significant privately operated infrastructure projects. Spanning 1,013 feet over the Alabama River, it provides a faster, more direct alternative to Interstate 65, reducing travel time, easing congestion, and improving safety for thousands of drivers each day.

Serving more than 1.2 million vehicles annually, the Montgomery Expressway is an essential corridor for commuters, commercial carriers, and visitors. By offering a dependable route into Montgomery’s business, cultural, and government districts, it plays a central role in supporting the economic vitality of central Alabama.

The Expressway bypasses the frequent bottlenecks on I-65, cutting commute times between Prattville and Montgomery from as much as 45 minutes during rush hour to just minutes. This time saving benefits not only daily travelers, but also businesses that rely on efficient deliveries and service calls.
